Create Your Own Simpsons Character

julie simpson.jpgThanks to a tip from Vulture, I’ve been playing around on the Simpsons Movie website, where you can create your very own Simpsons character! It’s entirely too much fun, and I’m quite happy with my own Simpsonification, at left.

(UPDATE: To save your character, hit ‘print screen’ and then paste it into a blank PowerPoint. Crop the image, and then right click on it and save it as a picture. Then you’ll have your own nifty jpeg that you can email to jealous friends.)

Oh and of course, we are going to run and SEE IT when The Simpsons Movie finally comes out on July 27.

Five Movie Trailer Voices in One Limo

What happens when five of the top voiceover artists crowd into one limo? In a world where the most recognizable voices are faceless, now we can see what they look like, and have a good laugh while we’re at it.

Check out this funny video from our friends at CollegeHumor.

The Justice League meets The 40 Year Old Virgin

So I’ve been working hard the past couple days to create a sequel to my trailer remixes list, this one focusing on trailer mashups.

Unfortunately it’s gonna take me a few more days to complete it, but in the meantime, I wanted to bring you this mashup that I came across during my research. It’s not a trailer, so I couldn’t include it on my list, but it’s too good not to post.

Basically, it’s footage from the Cartoon Network’s Justice League spliced with the dialogue of the “How I Know You’re Gay” scene from The 40 Year Old Virgin.

It’s literally one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

The best part is that it’s the dialogue from the full improvised scene between Paul Rudd and Seth Rogan, which was only included on the DVD and not in the movie, so most people haven’t heard it. And then to hear it coming out of Batman and Superman’s mouths is simply priceless.

Will Ferrell Movie Generator

I just wanted to direct everyone’s attention to a very funny new spot they have going over at CollegeHumor.

They’ve created a Will Ferrell Movie Generator that creates new Will Ferrell movie plots with the click of a button. It’s madlibs meets…well, actually it’s probably exactly how they come up with movies in Hollywood normally.

Anyways, check it out here. My favorite part is how he always takes off his shirt in the depths of his despair…

Monty Python and The Holy Grail Trailer!

I recently stumbled upon this old trailer for Monty Python and The Holy Grail, and I absolutely fell in love with it.

I’m fine with how most trailers simply summarize the plot of the film. However, I also really appreciate it when the studios get a little creative with their trailers. Not every trailer has to do the same old thing. In fact, not every trailer has to show actual footage from the film. Since there are always two or three trailers for every movie, I don’t see why one of them can’t be a little different.

This trailer for Monty Python and The Holy Grail is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. It doesn’t show any actual movie footage until very late in the game, but the intro is so hilarious and so typical Monty Python, that it still gives you a good taste of what the movie will be like. The other thing I like about these kinds of alternative trailers is that they get you excited about the film without actually giving away any of the plot.

If you like this trailer, also check out the trailer for Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, which uses a similar format. Actually, it’s remarkably similar to the Monty Python trailer.

What If the Only Dialogue in Pulp Fiction Was the F-Word?

My friend Shay just told me about this video, and I realized it would be the perfect next post, after my list of trailer remixes and Julie’s post about the R-rated Knocked Up trailer.

Basically, it’s every use of the f-word in Pulp Fiction, strung together in chronological order.

Just trust me on this one. It’s fuckin’ hilarious!

Trailer Fun

A trailer is a powerful tool. When done right, a trailer can get you excited for a movie that you wouldn’t have even suspected you’d be interested in. When done wrong, however, a trailer has the power to sell you on a movie that you really won’t be interested in, by manipulating the scenes and dialogue in a way that convinces you that the movie is about something it’s not.

To better illustrate this point, I thought I’d display a few fun examples of what has evolved into somewhat of an art-form on YouTube: the Trailer Remix. If you search for “trailer remix” or “trailer recut” on YouTube, you’ll find literally hundreds of trailers that have been altered to make the movies about something far different than the reality. Probably the most popular example of this is the trailer that makes The Shining look like a lighthearted drama (I’ve included this on my list of The Top 15 Trailer Remixes of All-Time).

For now, though, I just wanted to show you a quick, less space-filling example of how easily trailers can be manipulated. Below, you’ll find three different alternate trailers for the movie Office Space, each showing the movie in completely different genres. It’s amazing how easily a little music and some suggestive interludes can totally alter your impression of what a movie will be about (it’s also amazing how much time people have on their hands).

Number one:

What if Office Space was a drama?

Number two:

What if Office Space was a thriller?

And my favorite, number three:

What if Office Space was a horror film?

And if you enjoyed those, definitely check out my Top 15 Trailer Remixes of All-Time (there’s actually some really amazing ones).
