Here at TrailerSpy, we generally write about movies, but if there is a good trailer for a TV show, then we’ll post it. And the trailer for the ESPN miniseries The Bronx is Burning definitely qualifies.
Back in 1977, New York City was not quite the nice, safe place it is now. The city was battling a serial killer, bankruptcy, and mass looting during a summer blackout. The New York Yankees were one of the few bright spots that summer, but the team was in turmoil too. New owner George Steinbrenner had gotten to the World Series and lost, so he went out and did what he does best–he bought a star in Reggie Jackson. In addition to Jackson, the ‘77 Yankees boasted Thurman Munson, Bucky F’in Dent, and managers Yogi Berra and Billy Martin. Together, their challenge was to bring the championship back to the Bronx for the first time in 16 years.
For every baseball fan, The Bronx is Burning is one big SEE IT. This bit of Yankee history happened before I was born, and I can’t wait to catch up. The Bronx is Burning is an eight-week miniseries starting July 9 on ESPN. (official site)

I’m not a huge baseball guy, but this miniseries does look pretty damn good. Actually, now that I think about it, I may not love baseball, but I’ve always loved baseball movies.
Actually, my stupid cable plan includes ESPN News but not ESPN, so I will be renting this.
Looks interesting. I don’t like baseball, but I can’t help but love The Sandlot. “You’re killin’ me, Smalls!”
I love the Yankees, ESPN and John Turturro (who’s definitely channeling Billy Martin’s essence), but I’m wary of any ESPN original movie. They’re beacons for overacting.
I mean, there’s even a slow clap in one of the trailers, for cryin’ out loud.
This is already on my DVR. I’m not a New Yorker, but I’ve lived here long enough for the Yanks to have an unfortunate influence on my life. I’ll definitely be checking this out.
I can’t help but think Daniel Sunjata is terrible casting for Reggie Jackson. He overacts and is completely outshined by Platt and Turturro. For me he is the weak link.
I have a weakness for ESPN series and movies. Being in Indiana fan, I thought Brian Dennehey was laughable as The General but it was only a TV movie I suppose. I have to agree that Turturro was definitely a bright spot in this series. I can’t wait for more cheesiness from ESPN.
