Opening, Friday September 15: The U.S. vs. John Lennon

The tagline for The U.S. vs. John Lennon is, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Then we see images of a questionable war and dodgy politicians and somehow it all looks eerily familiar. John Lennon was vehemently opposed to the Vietnam War, and he wasn’t afraid to make those opinions known. I’ve gotten into documentaries in a big way lately because they all have something to teach us. Regardless of your political leanings, The U.S. vs. John Lennon is a glimpse into the life of one of music’s biggest stars and a it is a peek at what life was like in the turbulent 1960s.

I have a sneaking suspicion The U.S vs. John Lennon will be a Academy Award nominee for outstanding documentary, so I am going to Rent It.

In another example of an unusual official site, the movie’s official site is modeled to look like The Drudge Report. The U.S. vs. John Lennon is rated PG-13 and opens on September 15.

Opening Friday, September 15: The Last Kiss

The Last Kiss is a coming of age movie that hits close to home. Zach Braff, who seems to be the new go-to guy for coming of age movies, plays a guy who is staring down the barrel of 30 and is frightened by what he sees. Michael has great friends, a pretty girlfriend (Jacinda Barrett), and a seemingly perfect life. Then he meets a beautiful girl (Rachel Bilson) who makes him question whether his predictable
life is what he really wants. Growing up is scary, dude. My unsolicited advice? Travel the world for a few months, and then be an adult.

Since I may have another quarter-life crisis while seeing The Last Kiss, but I still want to see it, I am going to Rent It.

The official site for The Last Kiss is a MySpace profile page, which I completely understand for a movie like John Tucker Must Die. But is this really the right tactic for a movie that is aiming at 30-year-olds? On MySpace, as much as it pains me to admit it, 30-year-olds are ancient.

Interestingly enough, this trailer was posted on YouTube by a user by the name of zachbraffdotcom, who linked to Zach Braff’s official site. Is Zach Braff really posting his own videos on YouTube?

Little Miss Sunshine - The Trailer Doesn’t Lie

I finally saw Little Miss Sunshine recently, and I am happy to report that all the rave reviews in the trailer are completely accurate. There were several points where Jared and I were literally laughing out loud. The trailer reveals just enough and doesn’t reveal any of the hilarious secrets of the movie. Little Miss Sunshine just opened nationwide, hurry up and see it.
